There is also an action called Item, move and stretch items to fit time selection. I've assigned this to control alt I, unless that was already an Osara assign. Go to the start of your item, make a start selection and then an end pelection based on the length you want that item to be, press control alt I and the magic will unfold. Basically, there are actions to do loads of amazing things, which you can assign to hotkeys.
