Beth,
I'm running Reaper off a system that is such a dinosaur, that it only has
512MB of ram. Not even! a gig, yet it works fairly well. OK, if I start
adding lots of instruments to my plugin chain, that's one thing, or lots of
virtual instruments, then it'll basically crash and puke, but for the most
part, as long as I keep the project very basic, it works fine. So, though
I'm not doubting you, I'd be curious where you heard that you need 4GB
minimal. Even my production machine doesn't have that much. It's only got
a gig and a half.
