Although I love Osara and the strides Jamie has made in improving
access to Reaper, I think Osara could really be improved if users could
have complete control over what Osara speaks and when it speaks it.
For instance, right now in the Osara configuration, there are only
three checkboxes - Report fx when moving to tracks, report item
position when scrubbing, and report the transport state play, record,
etc. However, I am getting extrainious speech that I could do without,
such as being told "Selection start, selection end" when hitting
alt+shift+left and right brackets. While this info may be extremely
helpful for newbies to Reaper and Osara, I find it a nucence hearing
that I have started or ended a selection, especially because those keys
must be deliberately pressed. Also, I would rather not hear the note of
every single midi note or event as I am arrowing up and down in the
midi event editor. As a pianist, I can tell what note is what simply by
listening to it and making the needed changes, without Osara babbling
at me at the same time I am trying to work. The only way to shut Osara
up is to mute NVDA's speech completely, then turn it back on when I
need speech back.
Any ideas on how this could be added? I think it would be better to put
a nice edit field in the Osara config in case we, the users want to add
custom entries to make Osara be quiet, rather than having to create a
checkbox for every single prompt Osara speaks. Less work for Jamie, and
more flexible for users. Maybe I want to just hear the word, "on, off",
when I hit control shift M to turn the metronome on or off. I already
know that I'm dealing with the metronome, I just might want a single
word telling me its state.
Sorry for such a long email but this issue really, really needs to be
resolved for the advanced Reaperian. And let's not forget, that
beginning users will become advanced at some point if they stick with
Reaper long enough.
