[Rwp] What you think might cause distortions or slow and speed up tme project in Reaper from Autery

I've never come across this thing of speeding up and slowing down.
Closest thing I've seen is playback becoming jittery and needing to
pause to buffer plugins on systems that I was really taxing or
sometimes when using on board sound.

Out of interest, can you get a recording of it to show us what's happening?
