[Rwp] where to start with Reaper

Hi Adrian,

The first thing you'll want to do is check out the OSARA ReadMe, which
is on the landing page of http://www.github.com/nvaccess/osara. Next,
you'll probably want to install the D&G keymap which is linked in the
ReadMe. Many of the keymaps basic assignments mirror ReaAccess at this
point. You'll also probably want to uninstall ReaAccess. The two
extensions don't cause the world to explode by being installed at the
same time or anything, but they weren't designed to cohabit, and
you'll likely get some messages spoken twice which will be a waste of
your time. Given that there's not any in depth documentation for OSARA
yet as the plugin is still in development, your best bets to get
started are to explore the keymap assignments (hit Shift+F1 for a
list), explore using input help mode (F12 will start and stop that),
spend some time with the Actions List whenever you're stuck (hit F4 to
get there), and it'd be worth checking out the CAVI casts on Reaper
that were put out in 2011 (Google or some exploration of
cavitraining.com will locate those). They're long, they're kind of
rambling in places, but there's good Reaper knowledge to be had in
there which is as applicable to OSARA users now as it was to ReaAccess
at the time they were recorded, so be ready to take notes. Most people
on this list are also willing to help. When posting here, the more
specific you can be with your question, the more likely you are to get
a quick answer. As with most things where people are providing help
for free, it'll likely go a long way in your favour if you've already
given a task a good shot and can describe what went well and where you
got stuck. Last but by no means least, CAVI ran a short course on
OSARA recently. It pretty much picks up where their podcasts left off,
so it doesn't cover much basic stuff, but it's specific to OSARA, it's
much more succinctly delivered, and will definitely be worth your time
once you've got the basics under your belt. I learned a few things
from there, and I've been using Reaper almost every day since before
ReaAccess was public, so it's safe to say Derek and Gianluca (the two
chaps who deliver the lessons) know their stuff.

Hope some of that helps get you started right away. IN time, there'll
be OSARA training and getting started will get easier.

Scott
