Since Reaper doesn't come with any good virtual instruments, and not many of the ones available are accessible, most of the people I know are using Kontakt (with the AHK to control its basic features), or are else using cracked versions of older virtual instruments that are no longer for sale. This includes Spectrasonics Hypersonic II, the Korg Digital instruments (M1, WaveStation, etc), older Native Instruments (B3/B4, FM7, Pro53), the Ederol/Roland instruments (Hypercanvas, Quartet, Orchestral, etc), and so on. Copyright infringement isn't permitted on this list, even for abandoned software, so you're unlikely to have someone send you links to download these.

Probably your best start is to get Kontakt 5 with the AHK. It comes with a fair set of sounds, and there are both free and commercial libraries available online to expand it.
