[Rwp] An administrative note about the list

Hi all,
As you've doubtless noticed, the past two days have seen a huge flood of
list messages. Unfortunately, not everybody has received every message.
For privacy reasons I won't divulge specific Email addresses here, but
there are a few spam filtering solutions which have been rejecting
certain messages from this list because their content scanners believe
they contain spam.
Let me state right here and now that I am NOT! accusing anybody on this
list of sending any spam messages. It's just that what you think is spam
and what I think is spam doesn't always jive with what various spam
filters think is spam, and there's really not a lot we, as posters or
administrators, can do about it.
The upshot of this message is this. I have the list software set to
disable subscriptions when people bounce at least one message per day
for at least three days within a rolling seven-day period. If some
addresses bounce mail today, this will be their third day with at least
one bounced message. If this happens, you'll receive a message saying
your subscription has been disabled because of too many bounced
messages, and providing a link to re-enable your subscription. If I see
this happen, I'll manually re-enable any subscriptions that weren't
previously re-enabled.
Like I said, there's not much any of us can do about this. I've seen
some providers who use spam filtering over which their users have
absolutely no control. I've also seen providers who give their users
control, but then the mail goes through a filter before it gets to the
system which would filter or not filter based on user preference,
meaning that the users' preferences don't really do that much good.
I hope this message helps, and I'm sorry for having to write this type
of message.
Thank you for your understanding,
Jayson Smith
