Hi,
Try working through this step by step guide I just through together.
Might be less confusing for you than the thread of previous answers.
They were right, but having a bunch of folks saying the same thing a
few different ways can be overwhelming. So, work through this step by
step, and shout with the specific problem if you get stuck.
First, you'll need to download four files:
1. Grab Reaper itself from www.reaper.fm. the latest version is supported.
2. Download the most recent build of OSARA, which can be gotten from
www.github.com/nvaccess/osara
You'll find both 32-bit and 64-bit versions under the "Downloading"
heading. The version of OSARA you download should match the version of
Reaper you chose in the previous step. IE, if you chose to download
Reaper X64 in the previous step, then you'll need the 64-bit version
of OSARA too. If in doubt, grab the 32-bit version, it's what most
folks are running.
3. Download the D&G key map from the page you're currently reading.
You'll find it under the "key map" heading. Note: if you're an
advanced Reaper user who already has custom key assignments that you'd
like to preserve, feel free to keep your own key map, but you'll
likely need to read up on exactly which actions OSARA supports and
make a few alterations to your assignments, as some of these differ
from ReaAccess.
4. Download the SWS Extension from www.standingwaterstudios.com.
Again, the latest version is the one to grab.
Now, let's install all this stuff:
5. Install Reaper first. The defaults of the installer are fine for most people.
6. Copy the version of OSARA you've acquired from your download
directory onto your clipboard, and paste it into the Plugins directory
you'll find within your Reaper program files folder.
For 32-bit Reaper users, the correct path will either be c:\Program
Files\REAPER\Plugins or c:\Program Files (x86)\REAPER\Plugins
(depending on whether that 32-bit build of Reaper you're running is in
a 32-bit or 64-bit distribution of Windows).
For Reaper (x64) users, the correct path will be c:\Program
Files\REAPER\Plugins.
7. Next you'll want to install the SWS extensions. The defaults of the
installer are fine for most people.
8. Open Reaper, and don't panic that OSARA doesn't seem to be doing
much for you at this stage. It won't until you've imported the D&G key
map (or made sure your own key map is using supported actions if
you're already a Reaper guru).
To import a key map, do the following:
A: Once Reaper is running, navigate to the actions list. If you were
previously a ReaAccess user, then you'll be able to get there by
hitting F4, If you're totally new to Reaper, go to the Actions top
menu by hitting Alt+A, and choose "Show actions list..."
B: Hit tab until you reach the "Import/export" button. Hitting Space
on this button will pop up a menu, from which you should choose
"Import..."
C: Navigate to your copy of the D&G key map (or your own key map if
you have one to preserve). This is a standard Windows open dialogue
box, so if you've gotten this far then you'll know the drill.
D: Once imported, hit Tab until you reach the "Close" button.
If everything worked, you'll now be able to hit Shift+F1 for Reaper to
generate a list of all shortcut keys. Note that there are A LOT of
them, so as a starting point, use your screen reader find command or
navigate by headings to locate actions specific to OSARA. You can also
hit F12 from the Reaper track control panel to turn on OSARA's
keyboard help mode, which will allow you to poke at keys and hear what
they do without carrying out any actual actions.
