Hi,
I don't know the web address to download Osara, but I do know that if
you google download osara it'll come up because that's how I did it.
Make sure you have the SWS Reaper extension too, which I found by
similar means.
As for how to mix and use Reaper etc, that's not really the kind of
thing that could be taught over a mailing list.
You might want to google soundonsound, which is an excellent magazine
packed with mixing tips of all kinds, though it might be a bit
overwhelming.
In all honesty, and I say this as someone who took it, I really think
your best bet is for you and your friend to take the Audio Fundamentals
course that has just started. It's run by CAVI and it'll pretty much
just be orientation this week and you can pick up recordings anyway.
$150 gets you a 12 week course, which includes 1 lecture a week plus a
flexible number of study groups, a wiki, access to previous instances of
the course via the recordings, access to a substantial archive of free
VST plug-ins, which provide all your effects etc and probably more that
I've forgotten.
The course will take you from the basics of audio - what the difference
between balanced and unbalanced cables is etc, to how to use automation,
sends, advanced effects chaining etc.
Here's the link if you want to sign up.
