Hey Kelly?
Unlike sonar, reaper's midi is all bolted on.
You need to load the midi control plug-in to take care of things like
program change, and cc values.
You can enter them manually, but what a pain.
I think there are actions that can link track volume with midi cc and
such, but haven't tried those yet.
The easy way to get a midi file to populate with a soft synth is to load
it up, and then hit the receives combo box on the soft synth with the i
command, and tell reaper to send receives to all the midi tracks.
If you choose it, wait a second, it happens automatically.
This sort of default behavior can be your friend sometimes, and piss you
off other times.
Otherwise, you just set your destinations and such as you wish manually.
yes, us old sonar users will be crying and kicking our legs on the floor
getting used to reapers neanderthal midi editing, but hey,
that's just the way it it out west.
If you really want to you can use rewire,
and make sonar and reaper play chase together,
have your cake and eat it too as it were.
I still much prefer midi editing in sonar though, but I am glad we at
least have the basics covered.
Perhaps a template for loading midi files
in to populated with that midi control fx, remember to always put it up
stream from your midi instrument either hardware or software, or your
program changes and cc values won't get accepted they'll be on the wrong
side 'grin'.
