I can only answer questions 2 and 4, hopefully someone can answer 1
and 3 and even 4 better

2. GO to the insert menú and select new virtual instrument on new
track (second option) and there are many of them you just need to find
ont that is accesible. Reaper has three basic ones including a basic
synth

4. YOu usually go to the view menú and use the midi editor. THough I
usually do all midi related stuff on qws.
