[Rwp] moving between items and markers

Hi,

Just a basic reaper question here from a newby.

I am using reaper 5.12 with osara.
I have to perform a very basic audio edit. Just remove un wanted audio 
from a track.
So first I put a marker on the beginning of theunwanted audio and I put 
a marker at the end of the pease I want to remove.
My question is, how dow I afterwards select the space between to 
markers to remove the audio?
Or should I split it in to items?
Question then is, how should I delete one item.
I tried this butt the end result was removing the whole track. :)

My work around is to zoom out and use shift and arrrow keys to fix 
this.
but there must be a quicker way of doing this.

Hope someone can give me a pointer in this.
