[Rwp] Introduction and a question about setting up FW 1884with Reaper

Rod. I'm still trying to work out why you are experiencing latency with the
transport buttons. I have not had any problems with the transport
functionality.

The play button works as a play/pause button. I think the stop button takes
you to the beginning of the time selection which changes depending on where
you start playback. The rewind and fast forward buttons jump between
markers if you have any set. Otherwise I guess the only markers are the
start and end so that's where they take you.

I know you said you set the fw1884 up as I suggested but I just wanted to
double check a couple of things.

Did you disable fw1884 control in the input and output ports under midi
devices?

Did you select fw1884 control as the midi input and midi output under
control surface?

I'm sure you did do both of these things so I'm wondering if it could be
related to some other setting on the fw1884. When you said you reset the
midi and hardware controls to factory default, was that on the fw1884
itself?

I've tried searching for info on reaper and fw1884 but nobody seems to have
experienced the problem you are having. I hope you can work it out.

By the way, did you select asio as your audio drivers?

David:

I have achieved partial success by resetting the midi and hardware controls
to factory default. I now have the transport buttons working, but with a
very uncomfortable latency. I have to press the play button once or twice to

get it to do what it does. also, the rewind button goes to the beginning of
the project and the fast forward to the end as oppose to the previous and
next bars. I know it's a latency issue and not physical damage to the
buttons because pressing rewind and fast forward in quick succession leaves
JAWS hanging for a few second or so. I have increased the buffer in the
project settings to 512, to no avail. For some reason, when that happens and

I press the Clock key (next to the Mod Mix), it works as fine for a few
seconds...

Any tips?

Hello Rod

I am no expert but I have managed to make the transition from sonar to
reaper and have my fw1884 operate as a control surface.

I've only had to set it up once so I have gone through the reaper
preferences to remind myself how I did it.

Firstly, you have to disable the fw1884 control ports for input and output
under midi devices.

Then go to control surfaces and add a control surface. I had to set the
control surface mode to Mackie control and set the midi input and output for
the control surface to fw1884 control. From memory, if you're using jaws
you will have to use the jaws cursor to find the inputs and outputs and
route pc to jaws to access them.

Finally in the fw1884 control panel, change the control protocol to Mackie
control emulation.

I hope that gets you started. Don't forget to change the control protocol
back to fw1884 native if you want to use it in sonar.

Cheers.

Reaper

Hello gang:

I am Rod Alcidonis. I recently joined the listserv as I am looking to make
the transition from Sonar to Reaper. I am an attorney by profession -- I
only record as a professional hobby. I have been reading the archive and I
have already learned a great deal from you guys.

For the past six years, I have been using an FW 1884 successfully as my
control surface in sonar. I have attempted to get the same setup to work in
Reaper, to no avail. I have been a able to get the midi and audio routing to

work fine, but the control surface functionality appears to be completely
broken. Anyone has successfully configured this board in Reaper?

If you are out there I would appreciate your help. Thanks thanks.
