[Rwp] A Basic Question about Ripple Editing

Hello,
once again I would be very grateful if you could help me out. I
haven't read the entire manual yet, but I have watched a number of
tutorials and apparently I don't understand how ripple editing works.
Or maybe I just don't know enough about items yet. Anyhow, this is
what I'm trying to do. It's very simple.
I basically just want to insert an empty item before all the other
items on a particular track. I turn ripple editing on, go to the
begining of the project and insert a new empty item. It gets inserted
right at the begining of the track and it pushes all the other items
to the right. So that part's fine. I than select the newly inserted
item and I set its length to 2 seconds in the item properties. I
thought that all the other items would just move back to the left
after that, but they stay just where they were before I changed the
length of the first item. What am I missing here?
