Healing items combines items of similar properties.  Gluing items actually
creates a file containing the audio of the desired items.
So, lets say you split an item in a project by pressing s, thus creating a
split across all tracks.  You only make a volume change on 1 item on a given
track.
All other splits on the other tracks are extraneous because no change
between items x and y, short of timing, exists.
Healing splits takes care of that problem by combining the two shorter
items, in to one longer item.
Whereas gluing items creates an additional audio file in your project
directory with the audio, as altered by all item and take properties only. 
Track effects are not rendered.
