[Rwp] Healing Splits in Items

That's partially true, applies directly to changes that affect the
timeline, or if items have been deleted. If you have made changes, such
as volume or pan on items or takes after splitting, then heal splits,
you'll lose those changes as the splits no longer exist, and the former
items will inherit the properties of their parent.
If you want to keep items contiguous, and also the timeline in tact,
glue might be your best option.
