[Rwp] changing synth on NVDA

I have a bunch of audio output devices in my computer that I installed NVDA
on. Is there a way to change the synthesizer NVDA uses, without opening
NVDA? I'm not sure what synth it is trying to connect to, so I'd like to
make sure it connects to a specific one that I know has working speakers on
it.
Also, there used to be a bug in JAWS where the reading would get confused in
Notepad. Sometimes it would even make text invisible to the speech synth.
Mostly it would just confuse next and previous lines... I would often put
text in the wrong places in the document, as a result.
Since I've installed NVDA on this machine the issue is happening again -
with JAWS. This is an old WinXP machine, 32 bit, and JAWS 15. Could the
issue be that, since there is no further support for XP, I just shouldn't
use NVDA and JAWS together on the same machine?
Best,
David
