[Rwp] configuring midi-joystick help please

Hi folks,
I'm interested in configuring an xbox360 joystick to control some
functions in reaper so I can step away from the pc and play some
music!

the problem is that I've got it connected and configured, I think, but
when I go in to the actions list and select "play/stop" for example
and add a shortcut and press a button on the joystick, Reaper doesn't
seem to recognize the buttonpress.

Here's how far I've gotten.

Joystick connected and recognized by the PC

Joystick visible in reaper options>preferences>midi>add joystick midi

One problem I seem to have configured three instances of the joystick
so I'd like to remove one or two of those.
I've configured one for the generic config which I think is correct.
I don't know if I need to configure an output, but, in any case, all
of the outputs seem to be disabled.

i have Midi Yoke installed, I don't know if this is a problem.

I'm running reaper 4.77
