Very nooby question but which menu is the track menu? How is it accessed? 

Also in response to the discussion about special actions, I had to create a
custom action to nudge the volume in 0.5 DB increments. Of course, that was
before I saw the tip about slowing down projects to write automation faster.


The write automation to end of project action works very well too. Thanks
for that tip Jamy. 

Patrick, I read an old post of yours, found it on google, that said that you
could do a lot of the mouse stuff with envelopes by keyboard commands. I
wasn't sure if that still applied for Reaper 4.77? If so, please could you
point me to the ballpark of where all that stuff hangs out?

It's in the track context menu, under "track automation" submenu.
