I have not done it myself. But, I was told that one particular HSC set
developer had implemented a knob. HSC would take the mouse to the knob and
lock the button for him, and he would just twist the mouse, or whatever to
rotate the knob.
Sounds ergonomically unhandy to me, to put it mildly. But, I guess it got
him there.
That reminds me. HSC has another feature, which is pretty difficult to get
working, but it will process visual sliders, which are not standard trackBar
or slider controls that a screen reader could interpret. This is for those
that are just graphical, and don't exists as MSAA, or UIA objects. So, it
is back to screen scraping, and nothing but. . You have to teach it the
range of the slider, and the location of it. It figures out the slider bar
color, and can convert the slider into whatever range and units you like.
Basically, once it knows the slider location and range of motion, you can
query the slider, and it will scan the travel span, and report a number in
your favorite units, such as percent, or db, or whatever you teach it.
It then can also grab the slider bar, and let you drag it around if you
want.
But, I gotta warn you, it's difficult to get that working. Not for the
faint of heart.

well I think its better to use kontakt's midi implementation inside of your
daw and use it with a real phisical knob. i would not get my head around how
you would use a knob with the keyboard or the mouse even.
