[RWP] reaper 4, saving to specific path with the render dialogue

Hi all:

I've finally upgraded to reaper 4.76. Overall, I like it better than
3.78, especially the automated FX parameter list reading more real-world
values in plugins, the fact that Reaper's built-in compressors are much
smoother, etc. but I'm finding it really frustrating to work in the
massively expanded render dialogue now.
If I want to save in a directory other than that which is specified in
options/preferences/paths, or the project directory, using NVDA, the
"save to" edit box is read only. You now have to use the brows button
rather than being able to type in full directory paths, it seems, as I
am used to from older versions, and just about everything else with a
"save as..." box.
Also, I can't see the brows button 100% of the time using NVDA's screen
review mode. It seems to appear after rendering a project once, then
doesn't show up again until I close, then re-open Reaper, or the
project. Strange thing to do, really.

If you type something in the file box like c:\stuff\more_stuff\file.wav,
it will go to <drive>:\<project-directory>\c__stuff_more_stuff_file.wav.
Note the underscores in place of : and \.
I found a box to not allow region names to have subdirectories, looked
in the "wildcards" list for something relating to this, but can't find
anything useful

Am I missing something obvious here? This seems kind of backward to me.
