Well, actually, you could argue the sighted user sort of does see it.
However, being able to focus on each field is not something that REAPER
offers. In this case, when I say it's fake, it's more that we'd be
creating our own entirely different UI, and that creates a whole load of
problems. Mostly, it's a technical issue.
As for efficiency, this virtual navigation thing is actually far less
efficient than using keyboard shortcuts to adjust parameters. With
virtual navigation, you have to cursor over to the parameter and then
adjust it. With dedicated shortcut keys, you just press the right key.
The learning curve is steeper, but the efficiency is greater. So, in
this case, I don't buy the efficiency argument.
Sometimes the efficiency argument *is* quite valid. Where something is
faster for a sighted user for whatever reason, we should make it faster
for a blind user as well, even if that requires a slightly different
user experience. However, I draw the line when you start providing
things that a sighted user can't do at all. In that case, it's now a
general purpose extension, not an accessibility extension, and it should
be split out accordingly. Furthermore, when you start completely
replacing the UI, you may as well be using a different product.
