[Rwp] starting the final year of my music degree, need an accessible system to compose using midi. Tips and suggestions most welcome!

The short answer is that you're out of luck with Ableton on any
platform if you want speech feedback and a fine level of control.
Tbh, if your course is heavily based around MIDI work, I'd say your
best bet is gonna be Sonar. The MIDI events list is simpler to use
than in Reaper, and it still has the most bolt-on solutions for
accessing softsynths and the like at this point.
Briefly putting my moderator hat on for a sec, I'd like this not to
turn into a gigantic thread about other DAWs, but I don't see anything
wrong with pointing people in the right direction.
