[Rwp] starting the final year of my music degree, need an accessible system to compose using midi. Tips and suggestions most welcome!

Dear all.
Finally after a very long time, I am about to commence my final year
of my bachelor of music degree.
I will be taking a music technology course, and am required to work in
the colleg midi labs, using a system to compose with midi.
My university is using ableton. So My questions are.
Is ableton accessible with Jaws, NVDA etc,
If not
What do I need to run reaper successfully.
They have said that if needed they will make a work station accessible
to me and load the software I need on to it.
Would I be best using Reaper, jaws and a midi keyboard? If so, how can
I get hold of some samples to use?
Or if anyone has experience with ableton, could you please message me
off list, as I know that program is not what this list is about.
