That seems to be the only way sadly.
It made me learn how to drag and drop with NVDA, for sure.

By the way, I've reduced the project rate, made volume changes, and then 
sped the project up back to 1x after writing the automation.
This works as long as you're not writing to the master track, because if you 
do, those vary-speed changes get written as well.

I rendered a copy of a project once which would reliably fast forward itself 
at a specific point.It took me way too long to figure out what was 
happening, but yeah.  More was learned by the end.
