[Rwp] automation without controller how?

I haven't figured all of this out yet, but it seems if you switch 
automation mode to write and then make changes while stopped, REAPER 
just writes a point at the position of the edit cursor. By default, this 
seems to default to a linear curve. If you wanted it to snap instead, 
you could then:
1. Switch back to trim/read;
2. Select the envelope you just created (OSARA will report this for 
"Track: Select next envelope");
3. Make a time selection covering the area in which your point was recorded;
4. On the Envelopes sub-menu of the Track area context menu 
(control+applications in OSARA), select Select points in time selection;
5. Again in the Envelopes menu, you can set the shape of selected points 
to square (or whatever you want).
The key is step 2. Without knowing what Envelope is selected, you can't 
manipulate it.

Note that in REAPER 4, it's not possible for OSARA to do any more than 
this; the API doesn't support querying or manipulating envelope points. 
In REAPER 5 (currently preview), this is possible. However, I'm not sure 
how useful it is to try to make the points accessible, as you'll end up 
with a huge number of them and the values of the points may not make 
much sense because they'll just be raw numbers due to the fact that we 
don't know what type of parameter it is. For example, if I'm right, we 
probably couldn't report -3 dB for volume; you'd probably get REAPER's 
internal representation. Similarly, for 1% left in a pan envelope, you'd 
probably get -0.01.

I've also just noticed that changing track volume or pan via the API 
doesn't count for automation, which means we're stuck with REAPER's 
ridiculous 0.01dB nudges. This might be a total show stopper for me... 
and I was very seriously considering switching to REAPER for good. :(
