[Rwp] split items.

hi guys, i have a track on which i like to partially put fx onto.
i have done as described in frequently encountered scenarios but one 
thing i don't understand is this.
when i have selected and splitted the item, pressed shift+e to open the 
part up and added an effect, for example a reverb, how come i can not 
ajust the parameters with the shift+p, or do i need to heal the item 
before i can do that?
