If you get an asio sound card,
then you shouldn't have trouble with latency anymore.

That is pretty much a must if you are going to do anything timing 
specific without
a bunch of headaches.

You can get by sometimes with asio for all, but that is not the good way 
to do things in general, spend the money for even an entry level 
something like the lexicon alpha and you will be much happier.
