Hi,
Yes, to a certain extent folders can be used interchangeably with sends,
difference being that, as far as I'm aware, you can't control the volume and
panning of effects on different tracks in a folder. Also you can configure
sends to be pre or post fade etc.
Yes you can apply an effect to a folder and have it affect everything in
that folder. The folder ends can either have audio in them or they can be
empty tracks.

Can I use folder tracks also for grouping Audiotracks together for inserting
an effect on the folder and its including tracks, control and automate them
and so don't have to create a send or receive E.G. for reverb or Pitch? Or
is a folder track only good for creating midi tracks to use one synth on
different midi channels?
