[Rwp] Using Reaper as a novice

Hi there

Totally new to Reaper. I haven't actually started using it yet at all. Keen initially to find out how accessible it is from the box? I'm using a Windows 7 laptop with Jaws 14. 

At the minute I use Audacity usually to edit. It's fine but I'd like the option to use a surface, which Audacity doesn't support. Any guidance at all would be great. No doubt the start of an avalanche of questions.
