Discussion of Reaper in all it's forms is welcome here, whether you be
running it on Windows or Mac, with OSARA or ReaAccess.
Chris, keep us posted once you've actually opened some projects and tried
running it with some sessions at higher track counts. My experience was joy
at first, but once I opened some actual mixes, VO crapped the bed. Lots of
busies and lag between keystrokes and speech feedback. Oreo gets stuff done
with it, and I find that impressive, because it ran like a wounded bear
here. This was on an I7 MacBook with 8 GB ram, a decent Samsung SSD, and
Mavericks.
Cool topic.

OK, let's do that then. We'll keep it for now in one place then. The
only reason that I suggested it was because I was under the impression that
this list was more really for the discussion of Reaper in combination with
ReaAccess, which really, as far as I know isn't available on the mac side
of things, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Chris.

I ditched PT and been using reaper on OS X for a good while now as my main
DAW. Most things are accessible and readable but the keyboard shortcuts are
are far and few between. I went through and ade a KeyMap and added a few
custom actions to speed workflow while in the process. Also SWS extensions
are a must to speed keyboard use. You can read more on this at
www.reaperaccess.com
I don't think there are enough mac users of reaper to warrant a new mailing
list for it and since most reaper info can be used cross platform, probably
best to keep it all in one place.

Jamie, in answer to your question, I just opened it up, hit command+T to
create a track, then went into the track strip, found the volume,
vo+shift+down arrowed to interact with it, and then did a vo+up arrow.
Yes. I was able to increment and decrement the slider with absolutely no
issue at all.
The only querk so far I have seen is when you get to the text box for the
track name, you can't just start typing the name into it. Routing the
mouse then doing vo+shift+space to literally click doesn't work either.
The trick is, when you get to the text field, hit vo+space. Then, you'll
hear Voiceover say, "Double click name." Then, you type the name of the
track, then hit return to apply the change.
Aside this though, I haven't yet found anything not to work. Granted, I've
not really opened much of anything in it, or played much yet with it on the
mac side, but from what very little I can see on the outer core of things,
it looks extremely doable!
Hey, do we actually have another e-mail list for the discussion of Reaper
with Voiceover on the Mac? If we don't, and you all are at all interested,
I'd be more! than willing to set up a list for this purpose through my
hosting provider.
You guys just let me know if you'd like me to proceed with setting it up.
It probably wouldn't take me but about 30 minutes at most to create the
list, and get it all configured on the back admin end, so it's totally
totally conveniently something I can do, and am extremely willing to do.
You all just let me know.
Chris.

Out of interest, can you actually adjust the sliders for volume, etc. in,
say, the track view? I ask because I realised the other day that the base
accessibility code for the UI toolkit REAPER uses for these controls is
actually open source. I took a look at the code and, like on Windows, I
couldn't see any code for making adjusting these controls accessible, even
though it does indeed make the values readible. Of course, I could just be
missing something, hence my curiosity...

Guys, I'm going to keep this e-mail, unlike my normal nature, very terse,
and incredibly short/sweet to the point, as it probably won't effect a lot
of you. It's Reaper related yes, but only somewhat indirectly. I think
though you should read this. If it's over 2 paragraphs long, I'll vbe
shocked, so just go ahead and read it. I think you'll be glad that you
did.
So, as a lot of you know perhaps, I am both a Windows as well as a mac
user. Well, I decided today, what the heck, let me install Reaper on my
Yosemite machine and check it's accessibility out, if there be any at all.
I must say that I was not very hopeful.
Folks? I? am! blown away! It is flawless! I have yet to find a screen
that doesn't read! All the buttons are seeming to be completely properly
labeled, all the preferences screens read correctly, even the actions
screen is totally! totally! accessible. These developers really! really!
deserve a huge! amount of credit. This is wonderful! Cockos just gained
even more! respect from me. Not that I didn't have it before, but now, I
really! have very high hopes for this DAW! I know one thing: I
definitely! am e-mailing their support and congratulating them on such a
fantastically accessible recording sollution. This is absolutely awesome!
Thanks for letting me share my utter joy!
Chris.
