[RWP] Sheet music from midi?

Hi Jes,

I can see two directions in which to look for. But sorry, since the only part related to Reaper is producing the midi file, my answer may not seem on topic. Sorry if you feel it's the case.

The first direction in which to look for is a commercial software called MusicEase, (http://www.musicease.com). This software has two versions. Only the pro version has the ability to import midi files and translate them to scores.

Problem: IMHO, it seems not so friendly in the way it interprets the midi file. The best success will be obtained with really well quantized pieces. As soon as you "humanize" some tracks in order to make them more pleasant to listen to, MusicEase will do a bad job with trying to interpret them.

In addition, although MusicEase has really powerful score rendreing and printing tools, since the scores it produces are not rendered either by NVDA on a PC, or by VoiceOver on a mac, (to only mention the two screen readers I tried), you may need sighted assistance if you want the final touch which really makes your production looking professionnal.

The good news however is that, since MusicEase has interesting playback tools, (in particular the one which allows you to play one staff at a time), and since the dialog boxes which are necessary to render and print a whole piece of music are fully accessible, you may end up with something fully readable by any musician. The remaining touch by a sighted person to make this work really professionnal music writing is quite light, (generally much less than 5 minutes per full page).

Personnally, I did not buy the pro version, only the standard one. This is because I don't usually need to make scores from midi files. I prefer relying on what I really write by myself.

The second direction in which to look for could be Dancing Dots. You probably already know them since they are famous with the work they made to elaborate an accessible solution around Sonar. But this seems to be only part of their overall work. The part which may be more interesting for you is what they call GoodFeel: <http://www.dancingdots.com/main/goodfeel.htm>.

Sorry, I only know that it exists but it is far more expensive than what I could afford. Playing music is only a hobby for me.

HTH, Have a nice day. Chris D

Subject: [RWP] Sheet music from midi?

Hi all,

Is there a way to write professional sheet music just by playing a MIDI instrument? I was thinking that I could play MIDI tracks in reaper, and then print the sheet music. Is this possible to do accessibly? And would this look professional?
Thanks!

Jes
