[RWP] Using Reaper on windows basics?

Hello,
I'm trying to understand how to use reaper with the key maps. I've got a 
couple questions though:
1. Does the Ninja keymap work on windows? It doesn't look like it, so 
what is there instead?
2. How does one navigate by measure, even if there are no beats?
3. When adding a track, how can I hear what the synth sounds like before 
I insert the track? Because there are a lot of different synths and it 
takes a very long time to hit ctrl applications, i, arrow through to the 
synth I want, hit enter, tab over to "add", hit enter, and then test it, 
hit delete to remove it and start all over.
4. When adding an effect, I see that instraments are there. How do I 
keep that from happening? Also, there seems to be a ton of fields that 
aren't labeled. How does one know what those fields are?
