[RWP] getting a mac for reaper what's the deal??

yep, I know cakewalk has quietly dropped support for boot camp with a mac.

If you are running anything low latency asio, wdm, etc, then high dpc
latencies will eat your lunch running real time plug-ins with any sort
of reliability.

That same machine will serve you just fine as an office machine or a
gaming unit, but daws are special, and acceptable dpc latencies are
essential for good work flow.

Yes, reaper is less resource intensive than other high end daws, but
this will afect any vst or synth, this isn't your actual latency of your
sound card, but has to do with the timing of when drivers get the
processor in the cue in the kernel, and you can go do your own research
about all that, but it means on the mac your windows install won't
perform as well now as it did with the older macs.

You'll be fine on the mac side, as things are handled differently, but
if you want good windows perfornance, go get a properly appointed daw
from a reputable daw builder and save yourself lots of headaches.

My daw maker of choice and the best in the biz as far as I'm concerned
is Jim Roseberry over at
studiocat.com

Now if you don't plan to use real time plugs, and just want to record
some audio tracks then dpc latency isn't such a big deal, but if it's
really high it can still shut down your recording and give you glitchy
performance.

I'm really kind of disappointed in mac that they let this happen, and
cheaped out on their latest stuff, but the push is for all the little
toy computer touch devices,
as long as the real macs work good enough on their own stuff, then
that's all they really care about.

but considering what they charge, it should be better than that.

But hey, it is what it is.
