[RWP] Getting sounds from a midi synthesizer to play in Reaper?

What are you using for an audio interface?

YOu could by pass the board and go direct to it, if your gain staging is
set correctly, but that's the purpose of a board, or part of it, to act
as a good place to set things like levels and bring sound sources together.

Most of the great recordings of the last 50 years went through some sort
of board, and if you watch your p's and q's, good balanced connections,
and again proper gain staging, you should get a good clean signal.

One thing about analog line level signals, you don't have to deal with
things like sample rate conversions, and or clocking, it just works.

I have everything here tied together with a nice mackie onyx 1640i, and
it works beautifully and is very quiet.

Don't believe for a minute digital is better just because it's digital.

If you were to use another digital connection, you might encounter
latency from going through another bus too, that's another great thing
about analog, you get speeds of the electrical signal through the wires,
which is way faster than say handing off a signal to another sound card
on usb or such,
if you are trying to use your internal sound card for reaper, you
definitely need a beter audio interface, and they exist a plenty for not
tons of money for very decent quality.

If your pres are decent, don't be afraid to just plug it in.

that eq circuit the real ones in your board, if your board isn't a piece
of junk will add some warmth and real mojo to your sound too.

Whether digital is better also depends a lot on where the signal is
tapped in the chain, on some pedals and outboard gear, manufacturers
actually make the digital signal
after all the analog stuff making it not a better choice, also if you
like the op amps in your keyboard, ie it's front end, that also
contributes some to the warmth of the sound and it's character.

Don't get me wrong, analog can be really crappy, cheap circuits,
over-driving stuff, picking up noise and such, but I'm saying, if you do
your engineering right, you'll be fine.
