You can always change the 0 to 1000 values in Reaper's shift+p
parameters list., and, depending on which parameter, you hear the
preset's sound change in realtime.
It's very tedious typing numbers into the value field, or
raising/lowering values with arrows or page up/page down, but requires
no additional equipment, like a control surface.
But, if you don't want to grow old and gray tweaking the sometimes
hundreds of parameters that a plug might have, I'd suggest a control
surface.
Sometimes you don't need to do much tweaking, like maybe go to Wet/Dry,
which is the last parameter listed, to shut off a preset's huge wash of
delay and reverb.
That's just a simple on/off switch, with a value of 1000 or zero.
Besides the shift+p parameters, there may be plenty of other options and
switches that are only accessible from bit map images on a plug's interface.
For those, you need some kind of already written scripts, or, to get
sighted help finding the bit map icons, then saving their coordinates
and finding a method to return to those coordinates.
