Yes, you can raise or lower the selected track's level in the I dialog.
When you escape back to track view and press the tab key you get another 
menu with the selected track level on it.
That's where I select arm for recording on; also set monitor record 
output there as normal, with the spacebar; hit enter to keep your settings.
