Under  the mac OS 5400RPM drives does not pose the same issues to audio as it does on windows. Yes 7200RPM drives are better and apple usually offers it as an upgrade option for about an extra $50 which isn’t a bad deal in the grand scheme of things considering it comes preset up in your laptop for you. Yeah audio is a virtual machine isn’t something you should even consider trying. Reaper can handle most midi task,the only caviot is it doesn’t come with a ton of instruments like sonar so the issue is most have a hard time finding accessible instruments.
