[RWP] Selecting the space between one marker to another?

I've been reading the selection info on here but I haven't seen this
specific question being asked, so I figured I'd just ask directly.

I'm placing one marker in one area of the track, then marker 2 on
another.  I'm able to bounce between markers with the proper
keystrokes, but when I try to select the space between those markers
it isn't really working.  Is there a keystroke that I can use that
will let me just bounce from marker 1 to marker 2 and select the
entire area between those 2 markers?  Also, when I have only one area
of a track selected, it doesn't let me go to where you can change
volume pan etc.:  do you always need to have the entire track selected
to do that?
