Just to add to this, GarageBand while you can bring .mid files in that
exist, does not allow you to save them. For that, you would need to
use Logic Pro on the Mac. GarageBand is a basic DAW, where as Logic is
a DAW plus MIDi sequencer, giving you many features that GarageBand
being a basic taster to Logic Pro does not, including the ability to
generate .mid files right ont he Mac. Also, why not try Reaper on the
Mac itself? As far as sound lagging in your virtual machine, their
isn't much you can do about this.
You're also running into the  virtual machine Winodws guest having
high DPC latency.
Chris Bell can chime in here regarding the consequences of DPC latency.
Also, just so you know, while you may hear some audio folks say a
7200RPM or faster hard-disk will get rid of that DPC latency on the
Mac regardless of if Windows was ran in Bootcamp mode or in a virtual
machine in Fusion, your still going to encounter extreme DPC latency.
This ultimately will cause dropouts inside Windows and blue screen
kernel crashes.
This has been verified from several Mac friends I know of, including
one who does not run Windows inside a VM, but directly on the Mac
hardware as far as the too high DPC latency effecting Windows music
applications.
Sonar is just one out of many.
Reaper is not unaffected by DPC latency either by the way, and a
majority of people, like Patric, only use Reaper for audio editing, as
that's what its really good for.
The number of people using Reaper for MIDI is pretty low, as far as I
know, though maybe somebody can correct me on that.
As far as the latency of your sound as I say, their isn't much you can
do about that without using OS X itself.
