[RWP] rob papen product line with NVDA and system access?

Patrick and all,
First off, let me explain that I am brand new in digital editing. Another
words, I probably know and understand less than perhaps 95% of the people on
this wonderful list. My goal is to get properly set up to be able to record
my own music, and then take the CAVI training corse in the Fundamentals of
Editing class in July. I'm not opposed to the cost of doing things
correctly, I just don't want to spend money on anything I really don't need.
Someone on the list mentioned using a midi keyboard with installed programs
to patch into Reaper. I purchased a Midi-Sport 2x2 I think it's called,
about seven months ago. Would this be a better option then using a control
surface? My keyboard here is a Kurzweil K2600.
The Korg Zahier recommended sounds good. Could it be used with an Allen -
Heath USB 10Fx? Otherwise do you have any other recommendations to look at?
Thanks all,
John

I have one of these units. My biggest issue is that it's very hard, without
being able to access the inaccessible software, to change easily from using
it as a control surface for tracking and transport controls, as well as a
general device for sending arbitrary assignable messages for effects and the
like. With the Korg Nanokontrol editor, you can make specific midi CC and
NRPN maps and save them in the unit, but that doesn't work with any screen
reader.
So, as far as I'm concerned, it's really best if you use it for one or the
other, not both. I haven't tried to see what happens with two on the same
system, one configured as a general control surface, and the other as a
button/knob box.
There are a few steps to take in Reaper if you want to use a pre-existing
control surface standard vs. just a midi input device, to which anything can
be assigned.
