yes, but if you do a little research, you'll find that the tuners of which
you speak come in a short, and a long peg version...you obviously got the
short peg version hahaha.
My G and L legacy has the schaller locking tuners and I've taken them off
for relubing before.
They are a stock feature on that particular guitar's neck, so the holes for
the nipples on the inside of the gear housing are pre-drilled instead of
sunk in as you tighten the bushing from the other side of the headstock.
If one was going to do several guitars, a metal or hard plastic jig might be
a good thing to design or have help making to insure that any drilled holes
line up perfectly to the gear housing, as well as in a nice straight line
relative to the top edge of the headstock.
tricky yes, but a jig could easily be made that would move a little to
accomidate any sort of headstock design.
