To open the functions list ; which is actually called the actions
dialog; press F4.
Okay, you have a thousand or 2 Reaper actions in the general actions
list, but you can shoot directly to particular actions by typing key
words into the search box.
You don't need to press enter after typing in search terms, just tab
down to the field that displays search results; which is 1 tab below the
general actions list.
Now, arrow to exactly the action you want to create.
Actually, you're not creating anything here; the action is already set
up, just waiting for you to provide it with a qwerty shortcut; or assign
it to a button, knob or slider on a control surface.
Now after arrowing to the desired action, tab down to where the shortcut
for the action you arrowed to is displayed.
If you already find a shortcut in this field, you can decide if you want
to replace it with your own shortcut, or maybe you'd like to trigger
that action from your control surface.
Either type in a shortcut or press or wiggle a control on your control
surface.
Then tab down farther and there's a field where you can try out the
action while remaining in the action dialog, or you can exit the dialog
and try the action somewhere in your music tracks.
This is not a step by step explanation, and you can do much more in the
actions dialog than assign a shortcut to a single action, like you can
chain any number of actions together; but if you spend some time in the
actions dialog you'll soon become at home in it.

I am tryinng to cut down on the keystrokes. I think Keven Reeves was asking something like this a while back, but I don't remember if anyone came up with anything. lol. I think that was the three that got kind of long. I do remember something like that though. I was just wondering how easy or hard it is to create custom functions? Thanks for any help…
