[RWP] Looping

I've seen this posted several times but it never works that way for me.

When I change to beats and make the number larger in an item on a track, and even nudged down it only seems to change the envelope or volume of the items after the item I changed, but not make the item longer.

I've tried this with ripple both on and off.

The only way I can loop so far is copying an item and pasting it at the end the number of times I want, so it doubles.

There's probably a better way to do this.

You can loop an item in Reaper by first making sure the item is exactly
  an even length, like 1, 2  or 4 measures, the most common loop lengths;
because if it is a fractional length; like 2.0.1 it will drift out of
sync with the rest of the music as it loops.
Okay, say you have a 2 measure item to loop, select the item with
  shift+A or ctrl+right arrow.
Then go to Item Properties; select to display the item length in beats.
Then multiply the item's length by a multiple; which will cause the item
  to loop that many times.
For instance, if the selected item is 2 measures in length, multiply its
length shown in the length field by 10 and the item will loop 10 times.
You simply enter a new item length in the length field; then tab down to
OK or whatever the confirmation is; hit enter.
It will occupy the new length on the time line, with the original 2
  measure item repeated 10 times.
Turn ctrl+R off, you don't need it to loop the item now.
The standard method to loop an item for sighted users is to grab the
right end of the selected item with the mouse and stretch its length
out; like stretching a rubber band; to the desired amount.
This item length multiplication method in Item Properties does exactly
  the same thing.
