I know that the search key on the phone can be pressed in conjunction
with a letter and or number which is often assignable but in later
versions of android seems to be hidden but is still there. On my phone,
I had to find a program called settings search and when I ran it, I
searched for quicklaunch and the quicklaunch screen appeared, and acted
just like when I could find it in the application settings in earlier versions.
Here you can use the up and down arrows and get to the letter or number
you want to use as a shortcut, hit enter or select on that, and you'll
get a list of your apps on the phone, which you up and down arrow
through until you find which one you want the shortcut to activate. Hit
enter or select on that and you'll hear that if you arrow away and back
to it, that the shortcut will be assigned to the app you chose for it.
I've only seen this with the search key and only on my phone so don't
know how it works on a tablet, but if the tablet works like the phone
does, then the home key takes you to the home screen, minimizing the
currently running apps, but not killing them. Kind of like the windows
m combo does on the desktop.
A long press of enter one one of theses letters will give you a context
sensitive menu which you can remove the assignment of the key to a
shortcut for example.
Sorry for the long rambling post, but hth...
Cheereo!
