[RWP] 2 Midi questions

I've recently acquired a Mackie Onyx8. and that's amother 
story.  This does not, of course have a midi interface, and I wonder 
what interfaces list members might recommend.  I can get by with 
simple in/out really, with the aid of a merge box and bits of wire.
Second question:  Has anyone tried the Midi-quest editing software 
for hardware synths?  How good/accessible is it?
