    But those would be good starting places for tweaking.

    A really great free reverb that I still use a lot is the
    classic reverb from
    KJAERHUS AUDIO
    that company is defunct now but their classic series which includes some really great basic essentials,
    is still floating around the net, and still stands up well with modern offerings.

    They're accessible via reaper's plug-in parameter view, as well as with sonar's inspector, etc.

      I know your not looking for huge churchy verbs as such, but for pretty
      much any kind of space, ambience, just that extra lil' summin', my
      go-to plugs are from Valhalla DSP. Their native GUI is completely
      inaccessible. I've been back and forward a bit with the developer
      about changing that, but his hands are tied by the framework he's
      using not exposing anything to accessibility APIs. He's raised it with
      the developer of said framework, but not had any luck. Activation is
      accessible, luckily. Anyway, I loved these plugs enough to sit and
      save out each preset, and from there, you can tweak using the
      automatable stuff you'll get from hitting Shift+P. Would definitely
      recommend checking them out unless anyone has suggestions of something
      that sounds similarly good with easier access.
