[RWP] Reaper and midi loops

Hi Jean,
Yesterday I ran an internet radio app on my Android tablet, and realized 
how far America is behind the rest of the world musically.
Yes, we have some great hits, but new genres often begin elsewhere.
I heard trance like I never quite heard before, made of many loops 
running simultaneously.
The player would bring a particular loop up or down in volume, put it 
through various effects, filters, flangers, equalization.
Meanwhile loops are dropping out and being replaced with new rhythms, 
new background phrases, constantly changing so as not to become boring.
I've been a fan of trance for years, but never heard it done so well.
I agree about Ableton Live, it's just the thing for loop music.
I tried it way back in, I think,  version 6, with no success.
I think you're underestimating Sonar's matrix view.You not only can 
determine in each cell how loops interrupt previous loops, and whether 
they're 1 shot or continuous, but, by placing a loop on separate midi 
channels, I think there's some method of having separate effects per 
channel; so you could manipulate effects on whatever loops that were 
playing on that channel at the moment.
I really don't know the rest of Sonar very well.
I'm very hazy how to set up effects bins per channel on matrix view's 
output.
Matrix view itself is very easy, though.
did it once or twice, so know it's possible to assign 61 midi keyboard 
keys with 61 different loops, or midi files, or samples, each with 
different rules as to how they play.
You could assign 128 keys if you want, and shift octaves on the keyboard 
to reach all of them.
My only problem with Sonar and its matrix view was not having enough 
computer power at that time for it, so Sonar crashed about as soon as I 
finished assigning keys to loops.

Then I got into Reaper, and shelved Sonar for a while.
Reaper has nothing to compare with Sonar's matrix view though, but you 
can place loops, or samples onto tracks, and they'll play when the play 
cursor reaches them, but that's not as intuitive and spontaneous as 
being able to play them live from the midi keyboard.
