Have you done anything with the reaper program,..."rea-control 
midi"?,...I use that when I need to do anything with midi in 
reaper,...I also am not very good with midi, but I found that program 
to be pretty helpful,...I use sound modules,..."two Yamaha sx racks, 2 
roland sd 50, and a Yamaha motif sx keyboard...

I don't really do anything at all with softsynths...

I also have a couple of old "Alesis" sound modules, but I don't think 
they sound that good...

I also have a couple of cheapo "Yamaha psr" keyboards that I 
ocaisionally hook up just to see what sounds I can get out of them...

I guess each person has his, or her way of doing things,...find what 
works for you, and perfect it, and stick with it...
