[RWP] considering purchasing the behringer BCF2000 control surface, but have a few questions

It's been so long since I set the control surfaces I have hooked up to
Reaper I don't remember the process, but I seem to remember that; when a
control surface is up and running before you open Reaper; you can
ctrl+P; then arrow down to the next to bottom of the list; to Control
Surface; and somehow find a list of types and select 1; like Mackie Mode.
I seem to remember that I needed to route to Wineyes numPad to actually
read the types, and select 1 of them.
Why not try all the offered types, what's it gonna hurt?
Just like the Behringer BCF2000 provides slightly different results in
its Mackie Mode, its Sonar and Cubase modes, why not go it blind and try
all the modes in Reaper's list on your old Sony device?
It could be useful for controlling Reaper, or maybe like the Behringer
in its default mode 1, very good for controlling parameters in VST synths.
